Little mermaid in a bottle! It was crafted on the birthday of my colleague/officemate 2 weeks ago but not finished until recently.
My bottle diameter was about or less than 2 cm... Face details to be improved with more practice... So nope, not going to show you the not-so-pretty face. Hee.
Happy birthday!

Childhood memory "My Fair Princess" (還珠格格)
還珠格格 - unforgettable childhood memory. I used to dress my Barbie dolls up to look and act like them. The things that mattered to most to me were - the hat! (oh sure, who doesn't love that?) and the white little silky white scarf that hung neatly over the neck. Don't ask me why but the silk white thingy looked really striking to me, even until now.
As for the "hats", I even made those "crowns" for myself using garbage bags and cardboards. Well, garbage bags were the cheapest and biggest piece of black stuff that I could find when I was twelve OK?
Right, stop reminiscing and let's look at the "real" things.
"Hat"? "Crown"? <3 Finally made a proper one - but mini! |
Putting it on a little girl! Now I wondered how did these people manage to put it on securely?? |

Thank you gift
Today marks the dateline of my master thesis submission, and thankfully I made it before time! Together with my thesis I handed my supervisor a specially made thank you gift - a DIY decorated jewelry box (or for any other storage purpose if you like). This idea is obtained and adapted from a Russian (I supposed) artisan, link here. The whole project took me two weekends; and the process of making and pasting the pebbles were the killer! No joke!
From the front. The box opens from he right and thus my door knob was on the right; yeah I could have done it the other way... Written on the golden banner was my supervisor's name, censored :P |
Open up the box and Ta-Da! A ginger cat with my signature at the corner. |
Viewing from the side. The sides were sealed with wooden-patterned adhesion tape. |

CY's shopping spree
Just two weeks ago I had a trip to Weststar Art Shop (Taman Melawati) to buy some supplies for my crafting hobby. To be honest, everything seemed so attractive that I want to buy all of them! Eventually I bought A few more mini glass jars, a new set of acrylic paint, and some other little things...
More dotting tools! |
A stainless steel palette (?) for my liquid clay and/or acrylic mixing. |
And then I went on e-shopping at Malaysia Clay Art (mind you I am broke, but still!). I bought a set of mica powder for my clay project and I find this really really useful in adding a metallic finish to my artwork!
Mica powder. RM28 for 12 colours. A little goes a long way! |
Topping up supplies - brown and silver clay blocks. RM 6 for a 60 g block. |
Sculpey Satin Glaze (Matte) - RM 24; Not very matte when used side-by-side with my FIMO gloss varnish. |
And then finally I took a turn in Daiso. What saddening was that they seemed to stop carrying acrylic paints; I couldn't see any in Daiso @ IOI City Mall; and the Daiso @ AEON Taman Equine only had a few tubes of a same colour left.
Anyway, it was interesting to note that I found a Daiso-branded "polymer clay"! According to some reviews on Youtube these are not polymer clay but more of resin clay, and the curing does not require oven. I bought one just to try - and I might write a review on that later. Stay tuned!

Crafting, resumed!
After resting for almost a year, I am back! Went for a haul at some local art stores and bought more tools, including more blades, ball and needle tools, and crafting aids. Will put them up once I get to organise them properly.
Current project in my hand involves a new material, yes, wooden box. Guess it right, my aim is to decorate the box for someone special. Stay tuned!
Ready for clay business again :) |

Finally, FIMO
Just 2 days ago, I was surfing around the net for some ideas for my blog, and I thought "hey let's try searching for FIMO Liquid again, and if not I will try to contact Staedtler Malaysia and see if they are selling any of those FIMO Liquid here". And to my very surprise, uncle Google linked me to an Staedtler MY shop at Rakuten.com.my! (Link here). And to a better surprise, they DO sell FIMO Liquid (50 ml) here at the price of RM 36.8!
So without any hesitation (only took me 2 seconds), I immediately had it into my cart and ready to check out. But wait, there I saw FIMO gloss varnish (available in 10 ml at RM 15.8, and 35 ml for RM 22.3), which was slightly cheaper than Sculpey glaze; so it went into my cart as well. Oh, I need to mention I've got free Poslaju shipping nationwide from them when I purchased more than RM 50; and this offer is only valid through the month of September, 2014.
Tried looking for more FIMO polymer clays but unfortunately they only sell FIMO Kids and FIMO Air for now. But that's okay, I was happy enough and excited throughout while waiting for my parcel. Hoooo!
... ... ...
And finally it arrived yesterday!
FIMO Liquid (Deco Gel) and FIMO Gloss Varnish. |
Overall I am a happy kid with my new toys. Just a tiny bit of disappointment when I found out that my FIMO liquid isn't the newer version "Liquid Gel" as advertised (the one with orange cap), but rather the old "Deco Gel". Nonetheless, I quickly set up my table top and started making some juicy pies *yum*. And those, will be updated in another post.
And... Ever since I made the cute little bride, I was motivated to make another doll... Guess I will be doing some other one some time. Stay with me! (I hope, I really do hope, time permits everything!)
If you're a FIMO liquid fan, this would be the best time to get your hands on the gel along with complimentary free shipping, so hurry! Till then, see ya!
Update (May 21, 2016): Rakuten Malaysia is closed down. :(
